Michael Lonsdale - Euphonium
Michael started playing with the Ripon Training Band in 1980, and not too long after, with no 2nd Baritone, got promoted into the main band. At that time and for most of the subsequent years the band were happily going along in the 4th section mainly playing at local fetes etc.
He changed to Euphonium in about 1983 and took the solo seat a year or so later. As the band started to improve and move through the sections he moved back down to 2nd Euph about 10 years ago. He is usually referred to by Martin as bottom Euph, always good to know your place!
Some banding highlights for him were playing in Durham Cathedral during Durham Miners Gala also our amazing association with West Cornforth, and our run of finals appearances. He is also proud of the fact his two children have both been associated with the band.
The main thing he has enjoyed about banding is the countless friends he has made, both from within Ripon Band and the many players he has met over the years who have made it all so enjoyable.
"Thanks to you all for the fantastic banding memories."
