Helen Mills

Helen stumbled into brass banding by chance. As a woodwind and piano player, she had the opportunity to join Harrogate Band as 4th percussionist for their trip to the Nationals back in 2002. Since then, she has dabbled on percussion and helped Ripon City Band for one of their contests. Since Henry took the percussionist chair full time at Ripon, as chief chauffeur, she has to go as well so they tend to come as a double act and the full joy of being part of the percussion team and banding has taken hold.

Helen works within the music department at Harrogate High School which she thoroughly enjoys. Her other hobbies (when time allows!) is spent being Chairman and performing member of Harrogate Operatic Players (musical theatre group) which she has been a part of since 1999. She also has the pleasure of being on the committee of Tewit Youth Band - a local youth brass band of which her two sons are part of. There aren't many mums that get the opportunity of performing alongside their teenage sons - and she is incredibly proud to do so.
